During Chicago Craft Beer Week, Jerry’s in Lincoln Square and Andersonville will partner with Half Acre Beer Company, Avery and Forbidden Root for two brew-centric events.
“Garden Party” in Andersonville
No need to pack away your Derby hats just yet! Jerry’s in Andersonville will hold a garden party on Tuesday, May 23. Starting at 6 p.m., guests may enjoy craft brews from Forbidden Root and Avery Brewing Company on the backyard patio. A bevy of botanical beers will be featured, including Forbidden Root’s Sublime Ginger ($8/12 oz), Tropical Toy Boat ($7.50/12oz), Fernetic ($8.50/8 oz), a TBD East Coast-style Pale Ale ($8/12 oz) and Avery’s Tangerine Quad, Raspberry Sour, Apricot Sour, Vanilla Bean Stout and Coconut Porter (all $10/8oz). “Grab a Cold Cat for a Cool Cause” in Lincoln Square
Jerry’s in Lincoln Square is partnering with Half Acre Beer Company to raise funds for the Illinois chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. On Wednesday, May 24 starting at 6 p.m., event guests are invited to enjoy “Tiger and Alice” ($8, 12oz) or “Barrel-Aged Big Hugs” ($11/8oz) brews while supporting freedom, liberty, equality and justice for all within the United States. Jerry’s will also be pouring “Galactic Double Daisy Cutter” ($8.50/12oz) and the always quaffable Pony Pils ($6, pint). Eric Kapraun from Half Acre will be on hand to discuss the craft brew scene in Chicago. The evening will feature a raffle for Half Acre and Jerry’s swag (koozies, patches, pins, stickers, beer, a growler with a free fill, hat, shirt and Jerry’s gift certificates). 10% of all sales for the evening and 100% of raffle proceeds will be donated to the ACLU of Illinois. The Blanchard, which loosely translates to “white horse” in French, will hold a fun “Jockey and Juleps” fete for Derby Day. On Saturday, May 6, party guests are encouraged to don their finest southern attire and chapeaus as the Kentucky Derby airs at 5:34 p.m. in the lounge. Two of the best dressed race enthusiasts will receive a $100 dining certificate, one awarded for clothing and one for best hat.
A Derby Day soiree would not be complete without bourbon cocktails. Beverage consultant Michael Simon (Acadia; the Wit; Celeste) has created a Sweet Tea Julep made with Old Forester signature bourbon, sweet tea reduction, peach and mint ($14). Executive Chef Ryan Burns will offer items from the new bar menu including Hudson Valley Foie Gras (roasted; black truffle crusted; marbled torchon; rase), shareable snacks (toast and marrow; chick pea fries; escargot; duck rillettes) and entrees (Blanchard burger; steak frites; dover sole).
