“March Madness” at Cactus and Franklin Tap


Catch College Hoops in the Loop

As mid-March approaches and the NCAA men’s college basketball season reaches a fevered pitch, make Loop-located taverns Cactus Bar & Grill and Franklin Tap your first choices for prime game-day viewing. During each day of the NCAA men’s tournament (a.k.a. “March Madness”), both bars will air the games and feature food and beverage specials.

Cactus Bar & Grill will be showing all of the games on their 12 HDTVs and 3, ten-foot projection screens. Ongoing March Madness drink specials will include $18 Miller Lite Buckets, $18 Sam Adams Boston Lager Pitchers and $5 Jameson Shots, in addition to their daily specials (listed below).

Halloween-Themed Events at Timothy O’Toole’s Pub

Pumpkin Carving Contest and Karaoke Costume Party

Timothy O’Toole’s Pub in Streeterville will kick-off the Halloween holiday with their sixth annual pumpkin carving contest on Friday, October 21. Beginning at 7 p.m., competing carvers may enjoy $10 pitchers of Miller Lite and $4.50 Absolut cocktails while preparing their ghostly gourd. O’Toole’s will provide the pumpkins and carving materials, while carvers simply come with creative ideas. Prizes (and bragging rights) will be awarded to the top pumpkin creators. This event is free to attend.

The following weekend, on Saturday, October 29, Timothy O’Toole’s will hold their annual Halloween Karaoke Costume Party, complete with a $200 cash prize for the best dressed guest (judging takes place at midnight). In addition to checking out all the costumes, guests are encouraged to select a song and grab the mic for the karaoke party that starts at 10 p.m. Saturday’s drink specials include $4 Miller Lite and Coors Light stadium cups. This event is free to attend.

“Steak Week” at Park Grill

Chef Calls All Carnivores to Millennium Park Restaurant

Tuesday, October 25 through Monday, October 31

America’s favorite meat is getting its own week at Park Grill. Chef Alex Shalev will feature a special steak menu during “Steak Week,” which takes place October 25 through October 31. These a la carte offerings will be available nightly during dinner service.

The “Steak Week” dishes include starters, entrees and sides not normally found on the menu, such as Wagyu Beef Sliders, Braised Oxtail, Roasted Wagyu Sirloin, Flat Iron Steak, NY Strip, roasted mushrooms and caramelized cipollini onions.

Dinner is served Sunday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Halloween “Fright Fest” at Wabash Tap

The Wabash Tap will host an all-out, Halloween “Fright Fest” on Friday, October 28. Spooky sounds mixed with plenty of party hits will be provided by the Comptap DJs. All ghoulish guests are invited to don their best costume, as a Halloween costume contest will be judged at the stroke of midnight. A $100 gift certificate will be awarded to the best single costume, and a $150 gift certificate will be awarded to the best group costume. This naughty night will also feature drink specials: $5 house cocktails, $4 Bells Amber and $3 jello shots.

Join Franklin Tap on Friday, October 28 from 5-7 p.m. for the Two Brothers Brewing Company “Total Tap Takeover.” Meet and mingle with brewers, reps and owners of Two Brothers while learning about Chicago’s craft beer scene. All 12 of Franklin Tap’s draft handles will feature Two Brothers beer, including Bitter End; Ebel’s Weiss; Prairie Path Golden Ale; Cane & Ebel; Domain DuPage; Long Haul; Resistance; Robust Porter; Imperial Pilsner; Atom Smasher; Heavy Handed; and Hop Juice Black (typically only available at the brewery). During the tap takeover event, Franklin Tap will launch “Pale Frank,” a pale ale, custom-brewed by Two Brothers exclusively for the Loop tavern. All Two Brothers beers will be priced at $5 from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Two Brothers Brewing Company is a microbrewery founded in 1996 in Warrenville, Illinois, by brothers Jim and Jason Ebel. The brewery, which produces a range of beers including four seasonals and a line of artisanal beers, also sells homebrew supplies. Run by the brothers, Two Brothers Brewing Company delivers to bars in the Illinois and Wisconsin area.

Each day, from 11 a.m.-Midnight (11-2 a.m. on Friday), Tap guests may enjoy a touch of Germany in the heart of the Loop location. Highlighted offerings include $4 Sam Adams Octoberfest, $5 Spaten Oktoberfest, $9 German beer cheese dipserved with pretzel sticks, and $10 German sausage plate (smoked German wurst, bratwurst andknockwurst served with pretzel rolls and spicy mustard).

Park Cafe’s “Picnic in the Park” Packages Perfect for Air & Water Show

The Chicago Air & Water Show takes place each summer for one weekend in August. Over 2 million people flock to the shores of Lake Michigan for the event, the oldest and largest free show of its kind in the United States. Park Café, located adjacent to Park Grill in the heart of beautiful Millennium Park, offers a variety of picnic meal options for any size party. Pre-select your picnic package (full menu is listed below) and schedule a pick-up on one of the days of the Air & Water show. Lawn chair rentals are also available for $7 each.

For those walking through the Millennium Park grounds, Park Café now offers over 15 flavors of ice cream to choose from, along with soft-serve, sundaes and shakes. On a hot summer day, cool off with a root beer float, chocolate malt or banana split. The ice cream menu is listed below.
